The London Design Festival
An Annual International Event
The London Design Festival was established in 2003 as an annual international event to celebrate and promote London and the UK's creativity. By dedicating the last two weeks in September to design a diverse range of individuals and organisations are able to come together, celebrate the creative diversity of London, discover new ideas, make new connections, and most importantly, have fun.
Locations
During the Festival design is everywhere in London and projects can be found in over 150 different venues. There is no one main location but there are hotspots in east, west and central London. The home for Festival projects vary by type too and they include retailers, museums & galleries, the art & design colleges, creative businesses, and temporary locations everywhere. This website will help you find them.
Scarlet Projects
Twelve stalls manned by a selection of the most talented and dynamic young UK designers will be selling remedies for modern-day ailments in the best wild west medicine show tradition. Ailments treated could be anything from i-POD addiction to compulsive shopping disorder and celebrity obsession, acting as a revealing and insightful commentary on the 21st century human condition. Commissioned by the Wellcome Trust and curated by Scarlet Projects.

Tom Dixon
Last year Tom Dixon contributed to the Festival with 'The Bombay Saphire Stretch', a bench made from blue rubber bands that weaved across Trafalgar Square. It was seen and used by thousands. This year he is going further with a new structure housing a project based on re-cycling and sustainability. It will be participative allowing visitors to contribute to the design and to contribute through re-cycling.
Located in the very centre of London it will be a very visible part of the Festival seen by tens of thousands of passers by, many of them strangers to design. One of the remits of the Festival is to reach new audiences and to tell stories of design. Tom Dixon, one of the UK's leading designers, will do both.
