Architecture week and Biennale Londra

Architecture Week and London Biennale

BDP supporting architecture events across Britain
BDP is taking part in a variety of Architecture Week events around the country.
BDP's Glasgow office, as architects, is part of the team involved in the £27.9 million refurbishment of Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. The team
has organised a series of events in June for 450 Glasgow schoolchildren who will learn about the exciting changes taking place at Kelvingrove, the building materials involved in the refurbishment effort, and the type of skills required by architects and builders to refresh such a building.
In particular, to mark Architecture Week, selected designs from the schools' Kelvingrove Tile Design Project, will be exhibited at the McLellan Galleries between 18 - 27 June. This project has given more than 180 Glasgow schools the opportunity to leave their mark on the refurbished Kelvingrove through the design and creation of tiles that will be displayed at the new education spaces.
BDP's northern offices (Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield) are involved in a collaboration with the Imperial War Museum North to participate in an architectural workshop for families and children. The aim is to provide an insight into the built environment using the museum and BDP projects as examples. The workshop is taking place on Sunday 27 June from 12 - 4 pm.
In London, BDP is taking part in two Architecture Week initiatives - London Architectural Biennale and Open Practice.
From the 19 - 28 June, Clerkenwell is playing host to the London Architecture Biennale, a festival celebrating the area's vibrant architectural and design community, inspired by the celebrated Venice Biennale.
BDP, whose studio is based in Clerkenwell, has designed and is hosting an exhibition Clerkenwell: Change and Continuity which explores the area's exceptionally rich history, looking at many of the people, places and events that have helped shape its character.
Historical information has been provided by the Survey of London (English Heritage), which is currently studying the area for a volume in its renowned series on London's history. The exhibition also includes a display of drawings of local buildings by pupils
from the nearby Dallington School.
The exhibition is being held in BDP's London studio at 16 Brewhouse Yard, itself an industrial building erected in the 1890s as the new fermenting house of the Cannon Brewery in St John Street, whose origins date back to the 17th century.
Also as part of the Biennale, three of BDP's projects were selected to be displayed at the Urban Interventions Exhibition based at the Biennale HQ in the Farmiloes building in St John Street. The projects are London's Hampden Gurney School, New North Bristol Institute; and the Armada Housing near Amsterdam. Each is exhibited with a panel and an architectural model.
For Open Practice on 22 June BDP will open between 4 - 8 pm and invite the public into the studio to see architects at work and the projects they design.
